If you happen to be in the Theater District tonight around 8pm and notice the lights dimming, not to worry: It’s in honor of actor Ron Silver, who passed away Sunday after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer. Besides his well-known TV work—from Rhoda to The West Wing—Silver also appeared in the Broadway runs of David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow and David Rabe’s Hurlyburly. Silver was 62 and he will be missed.

I really admired Ron Silver, first as an actor, and second as a man who knew where to stand. While standing on the right, he lost his paper friends, but gained the respect hundreds, if not thousands who stood with him.
