The first-ever JCPenney opens in the city on July 31, and while you’re probably thinking of a million ways to avoid the Manhattan Mall, you might want to reconsider. Sure, thousands of people will be swarming the 153,000-square-foot two-floor store for affordable merchandise—it stocks more than 500,000 pieces, after all. But the mammoth department store is doing its part to combat the crowds. They’ve hired approximately 500 associates, and built nearly 100 registers that feature an electronic queuing system that directs customers to available registers and informs them of estimated wait times. The new megashop will also offer same-day delivery in Manhattan for $15 and an in-store interactive touch-screen system for finding out-of-stock or catalog items. More important, there are great deals to be found. We got a preview of the store and picked out our favorite finds.

Say “New Yorker” with a heavy New York accent—what does it sound like? That’s how Matthew Waldman came up with the name for his funky, futuristic line of digital watches. Today Nooka opens up shop inside the East Village concept boutique Den. The brand is introducing its newest line of lifestyle accessories, which will be launched for the fall season, along with the full line of timepieces. The new additions include a line of unique candy-colored belts ($95), and an eye-catching eau de parfum ($80) in a custom gem bottle. We’re particularly enamored with the Asset Organizer (a fancy name for wallet), which is made from a rubberlike substance, is soft and squishy (so it’s comfortable to sit on, men!), comes in Nooka’s signature bright colors and is even water-resistant.
Take a tour of the space and see what’s in store.

Known for its glittering crystals and shimmering baubles, Swarovski is branching out with its first stateside concept shop, which includes a full-service restaurant and a hang-out space. The focal point of the block-long boutique is the “library of light,” a selection of 2,000 stones (in every shape, cut, color and material imaginable) that can be purchased individually ($8–$22). Pick up jewel settings ($2–$12) and tools ($3–$30) and craft a one-of-a-kind creation downstairs in the sleek lounge. It’s easy, we swear. But if you’re not into DIY, order bespoke jewelry by customizing a piece from the ready-to-wear collection at no additional cost. Check out the limited-edition guest designer collections (Botkier, Ted Rossi, Hollywould and more) and other thoughtfully designed—even edgy—pieces you would never expect to find from this glamorous brand.
