Tonight’s special event at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (594 Broadway between Houston and Prince Sts; 212-254-3511, moccany.org) could only be devised by a brilliant comic-addled mind: Craig Yoe, the cartoonist and author (among many other things) will sit down for an interview with “faux Steve Ditko” (cocreator of Spider-Man and Dr. Strange) and “faux Stan Lee.” How does that work? Well, ever a student of the comic-book game, Yoe has delved into the archives and unearthed old interviews with the two legends. Tonight, he’ll recreate them with the help of two celebrity impersonators. Think of it as Frost/Nixon for Spidey fans.
The event will start at 7pm and run for about an hour; tickets are $5. If you’re interested in the real Steve, be sure to check out The Art of Ditko, a retrospective of the enigmatic artist’s work compiled by Yoe.

The eternal question: Betty or Veronica?
Tonight, hark back to a more innocent time with “An Evening of Archie Comics” at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (594 Broadway between E Houston and Prince Sts; 212-254-3511, moccany.org; 7pm, $5). Archie Comics editor-in-chief Victor Gorelick and Mad magazine writer Arie Kaplan will discuss the history and influence of the storied comic book publisher. Afterward, Kaplan will sign copies of his book, From Krakow to Krypton: Jews and Comic Books. The accompanying exhibit, “The Art of Archie Comics,” and another on Spider-Man, are on display until February 28.

Undercover environmentalists, voracious animals and nautical voyages are but three of the notable features in Rebecca Migdal’s new comic, Judgement Day. Get it fresh off the presses–free and signed by Migdal and the Yes Men–today from 5 to 6pm at MoCCA.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! After the signing, see the accompanying film The Yes Men Fix the World at Film Forum.
Who are the Yes Men? They’re muckrakers Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno, two real-life, green-living whistle-blowers who expose the corporate honchos responsible for exacerbating environmental debacles like Hurricane Katrina, whale hunting and much, much more. In Migdal’s comic and its real-life variant, they endeavor to right wrongs, perform pranks and, in the process, fix the world.
So read the comic, watch the movie, feel indignant, then find catharsis. There will be righteous comeuppance. There will be corporate covers blown. There will be justice. –Rebecca Katherine Hirsch
