  • Hot Recap: The Brooklyn Bailout

Posted in Own This City by Ashlea Halpern on April 19th, 2009 at 1:37 pm

    Photos by Eric Harvey Brown

On Friday, the Brooklyn Masonic Temple was overrun with the creative cats of the Brooklyn Bailout, including musical performers and DJs King Britt, Justin Carter, Zemi 17 and Derek Plaslaiko. Of course, the hottest fire and brimstone came from Reverend Billy, the Lady Circus, Chika Imagima and the partygoers themselves. Proof is in the pictures—and check out that glowy ice sculpture of the Brooklyn Bridge!

All the beautiful people: Photos from the Armory Show after-party at MoMA

Posted in Art, Own This City, Own This City, Shopping by Ashlea Halpern on March 5th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

    Photographs by Andrew Parks

Last night’s Armory Show after-party/benefit at the Museum of Modern Art was as to be expected: an oil-and-water blend of insanely coiffed art stars, their androgynous girlfriends/boyfriends, and the hedge-funders, software tycoons and galleristas who dote on them. Piss Christ–er Andres Serrano, Justin Rockefeller, Andrew Andrew, Nick Denton, Glenn and Susan Lowry, Mario Cantone, Kim Cattrall, Tom Delavan, Lucy Lui, Patrick McMullan (of course), Justin Carter, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and Art Fag City’s Paddy Johnson were all in attendance; DFA’s Justin Miller and Gang Gang Dance kept the dance floor sweatin’ from 8:30pm till midnight. (Not a bad turnout, considering that the VIP preview at Piers 92 and 94 earlier in the day drew Michael Stipe, John Waters, Sophia Coppola, Jeffrey Deitch and Kenny Scharff, among others.)
