What’s going on: Explosions in the Sky in Central Park, Janeane Garofalo at Union Hall and Anne Hathaway in drag

    Twelfth Night

    Twelfth Night

    Theater
    Twelfth Night

It’s that time of year again: The weather is warm, the Park is inviting, and there’s free Shakespeare there. This time around, Anne Hathaway breaks hearts in male drag.

    Eat Out

Challenge the bartender at Flight 151 to a coin toss, and if you win, the drink’s on the house.

    Music
    Explosions in the Sky

The Texan post-rockers celebrate a decade of noise with an evening in the sun at Central Park SummerStage.

    Comedy
    Janeane Garofalo

Unflinchingly acerbic, Garofalo is still lambasting political and social idiocies more than 15 years after her career began.

    Theater
    Stunning

David Adjmi’s striking new drama tests the boundaries of whiteness.

Tonight’s Last-Minute Plan: See Janeane Garofalo for free

Posted in Comedy, Own This City by Jonathan Shannon on March 10th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Pete Holmes co-hosts big-name Janeane Garofalo

Pete Holmes cohosts big-name Janeane Garofalo

Janeane Garofalo: 15 letters. That’s a big name both figuratively and literally. She performs for free at Punch up Your Life tonight. Jessi Klein and Pete Holmes host, and John Hailes and Jon Glaser also perform.

I know it’s going to be tough living through the mirthless intervening hours until showtime, so here are some funny clips to see you through. First, fresh from not winning at the ECNY awards, Pete Holmes dreaming of Morgan Freeman. Second, Jon Glaser in his Cartoon Network show, Delocated.

Whilst you’ll need no further convincing, here’s more: Venue Housing Works provides shelter and support services to homeless people living with HIV and AIDS, and serves beer. So the more you drink (responsibly), the more your help your fellow New Yorkers.

    COMEDY

    CLUBS
    Konkrete Jungle
The nightcap to your day off should be at this long-running party at the Pyramid Club.
