Video: At the Milly fashion show

Posted in Shopping by Own This City on February 19th, 2009 at 7:14 pm

TONY contributor Julia Allison caught up with Milly founder Michelle Smith.

“It’s a challenging season to be a designer. You have to offer the customer versatile, wearable pieces that are still beautiful and gorgeous but are not so crazy and out there, they can only be worn once.”

The View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who’s starting a women’s apparel line, was in the crowd. Julia got her reaction to being a designer during a recession: Use plain shopping bags?

    Video: Michael Kors

Posted in Shopping by Own This City on February 19th, 2009 at 11:47 am

TONY contributor Julia Allison corners Michael Kors after his show.

    Neon is the new flower.

Then she bumps into 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski. Don’t be surprised if her character, Jenna Maroney, starts sporting one of these Michael Kors hats.

Yes, that Barbie. Mattel marked the 50th anniversary of the doll with a runway show of 50 outfits designed some big names. TONY contributor Julia Allison talks with Barbie general manager Richard Dickson and folks in the crowd such as Annie Leibovitz and Diane von Furstenberg to find out…why Barbie?

Fashion Week Fall 2009: Carlos Campos

Posted in Own This City by Lisa Freedman on February 15th, 2009 at 10:07 pm

onesie1In case anyone was unsure, it seems like jumpsuits and onesies are seriously back in style. And Carlos Campos has a thing or three to do with it. Looking through his lineup of  one-piece suits for men and women, we braced ourselves to be horrified. But the lights went down and we actually liked it. We really liked it! Our favorite (pictured) is absolutely adorable.

In other news of things we love, the show was sponsored by POMx, a new iced coffee drink by the people who perfected pomegranate juice. It was sweet and delicious. Just one problem: Soon after finishing the bottle, we were overcome with the urge to pee. Not really an ideal situation to be in you happen to be wearing the aforementioned onesie.
