Wax figures at Madame Tussauds
It’s Black History Month, wahoo! To celebrate, we asked readers to pen us a haiku about a famous black American. The prize: tickets to Madame Tussauds, home of the city’s most convincing (Barack Obama) and creepiest (sorry, Rosa Parks) wax creations. The winner of the contest was Kristen Sonntag, who submitted not one but four BHM haikus. We liked these two the best:
Angela Bassett/What’s love got to do with it?/You got your groove back.
Gimme some peanuts/I’m George Washington Carver/Hook a brother up.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a contest without a big, fat honorable mention:
In a time of war/He fought like a butterfly/Muhammad Ali.—Joshua Rubin
And to the rest of you who think a haiku consists of four-ten-six, uh, better luck next time.
