Our last experience with a barter economy was many moons ago, involving one long, arduous afternoon trying to fjord a river without flooding our covered wagon in Oregon Trail. But given our economic circumstances, we’re not a bit surprised to learn that a number of artists are willing to trade their work for seemingly mundane goods and services, in lieu of cold hard cash. Tomorrow, June 27, curator Antonio Puri will present the fifth edition of ART4Barter (Tamarind Art Council, 142 E 39th St between Lexington and Third Aves; 6–9pm). Click through for a slide show of art for sale, as well as proposed barter terms. We recommend testing your recession-honed bargaining skills on Brian Richmond, who is open to suggestions. “Covered Blue” for a beer?
