The excellent FSG Reading Series, hosted in the excellent second-floor space of the Russian Samovar at 256 West 52nd Street, is back with its inaugural 2009 event. Past readers have included Alex Ross, Richard Price and Jonathan Franzen. Tonight’s lineup pairs a newcomer with an old soul: Alina Simone reads from her forthcoming essays about indie rock and Russia, and the wise and droll Sam Lipsyte will read from his upcoming novel. As the invite advises: Come early (doors open at 6:30), stay late. If you drink enough, you may encounter the ghost of onetime Russian Samovar denizen Susan Sontag.
