Chelsea’s newest contribution to the NYC summer art scene

Posted in Art by Time Out Art on July 28th, 2010 at 3:20 pm

Traditionally, the late-summer cultural scene here in New York is dominated by free outdoor concerts and film screenings, while Chelsea becomes a ghost town. But 25 galleries are trying to change all that by collectively hosting the Chelsea Art Walk, this Thursday, July 29, from 5 to 8pm. In the first edition of what will hopefully be an annual event, the participating galleries will stay open long past your  working hours with special performances, artist
talks and giveaways. Don’t miss your chance to catch the excellent exhibition on female body builders at Hasted Hunt Kraeutler, where photographer Martin Schoeller will be present from 6 to 8pm to answer questions about his work. Concurrently, the graffiti artist Phetus will do a live demonstration at Benrimon Contemporary, in conjunction with their exhibition “Graffiti NYC: Artists of the Third Rail.” For a full list of participating galleries, summaries of their exhibitions, event schedule and participating vendors, please visit the Chelsea Art Walk website.—Sarah Lerner
