’Tis the season—to cut down on plastic-bag pollution, that is. To reduce the footprint of your holiday shopping sprees, check out tonight’s free Sweatshop Social at 3rd Ward (195 Morgan Ave between Meadow and Stagg Sts, Bushwick, Brooklyn; 718-715-4961), a monthly workshop hosted by Bags for the People.
BFTP is a non-profit that fashions reusable shopping bags from recycled clothing and other fabric. On the last Monday of every month from 7 to 10pm, they take over 3rd Ward to teach people exactly how to make a bag out of a dress, hat, belt or anything else you may have lying around. You bring the materials, and they provide the sewing machines, live drone music, beer and food. Sounds like a pretty good deal to us!
