To reduce the footprint of your holiday shopping sprees, check out tonight’s free Sweatshop Social at 3rd Ward (195 Morgan Ave between Meadow and Stagg Sts, Bushwick, Brooklyn; 718-715-4961), a monthly workshop hosted by Bags for the People.
BFTP is a non-profit that fashions reusable shopping bags from recycled clothing and other fabric. On the last Monday of every month from 7 to 10pm, they take over 3rd Ward to teach people exactly how to make a bag out of a dress, hat, belt or anything else you may have lying around. You bring the materials, and they provide the sewing machines, live drone music, beer and food. Sounds like a pretty good deal to us!
