If the rain has you down in the dumps, then pick yourself right back up during lunch today at New Field Yoga (27 Cliff St between Fulton and John Sts; 212-666-3700, newfieldyoga.com), with “Lunchtime Enlightenment,” a 45-minute guided meditation led by Carl Sheusi. In addition to being a yoga instructor at one-month-old New Field, Sheusi is also a life coach and a monk. His main teacher, Zen master Genpo Roshi, developed the “Big Mind Big Heart” technique that Sheusi will be teaching today.
While lots of meditation practices are all about seeing the bigger picture, this particular method combines Western psychology with the more spiritual aspects of meditation, in an attempt to reveal the true inner workings of our minds. If that sounds like too much revelation too early in the day, head on over to bigmind.org to read more about Genpo Roshi and his upcoming workshops, or check out this video to see him expound on the purpose and benefits of Big Mind Big Heart. “Lunchtime Enlightenment” runs every Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:15pm and costs $15.
