From its tree-lined streets to the swoonworthy brownstones taunting me on my walk back to my more-affordable apartment, the nabe definitely feels more like my grandparents’ Brooklyn, albeit with tighter jeans.”

The Flying Saucer 494 Atlantic Ave between Third Ave and Nevins St (718-624-0139) “This is one of my top places to pick up a coffee on the rocks. And with sandwiches, maté and a garden out back, I know I’ll be clocking more time here now that it’s the season for working on my tan.”

The Brooklyn Inn 148 Hoyt St at Bergen St (718-522-2525) “My favorite bar just happens to be on my block, so see you guys never. With its old-world charm and low-key vibe, it’s hard for me to go anywhere else…”

“…unless the sun is shining and I want a hot dog. In that case, I go to
the Gowanus Yacht Club (323 Smith St at President St, no phone). This outdoor hot spot is usually packed, but for cheap beer and barbecue, it really can’t be beat.”

Bar Tabac 128 Smith St at Dean St (718-923-0918) “Parisian charm comes to Brooklyn in this great brunch spot on one of Boerum Hill’s main drags. Just don’t trip over the vintage foosball table on your way in to devour the delicious French toast.”

Her favorite shops:
“It’s hard not to get distracted on Atlantic Avenue. City Foundry’s (365 Atlantic Ave between Bond and Hoyt Sts, 718-923-1786) and Darr’s (369 Atlantic Ave between Bond and Hoyt Sts, 718-797-9733) mix of salvaged vintage and industrial has given me a year’s worth of inspiration for decorating my cozy abode.”

Butter Consignment 371 Atlantic Ave between Bond and Hoyt Sts (718-522-3522) “Brooklyn’s answer to Century 21, minus the hordes of tourists and anxiety attacks. This sleek shop stocks lightly worn and vintage pieces from names like Marc Jacobs, Lanvin and Chloé. Paycheck, I hardly knew thee.”
