New York’s ten best outdoor restaurants

Dine under the grapevine-covered trellises at Le Jardin Bistro.

Have your shades at the ready: Memorial Day’s upon us, and the sun’s rays are upon our skin. Time for some alfresco dining!

Too often that means squeezing into a tiny café table next to the sidewalk, where the aroma of your food mingles with car-exhaust fumes and your sight line reveals squatting dogs. Wouldn’t you rather dine in a verdant private garden, on a deck overlooking Sheepshead Bay, on a rooftop with views of Manhattan’s skyline, or under the Empire State Building in Madison Square Park? Us too.

We’ve listed these oases of calm in our roundup of NYC’s ten best outdoor restaurants, along with photos for your viewing pleasure and a map so you can locate a summery joint near you. Just remember to pack the SPF 30.
