    Tonight’s Last-Minute Plan: Don’t fear the microphone

Posted in Own This City by Jonathan Shannon on April 8th, 2009 at 5:00 pm

705eorockerkaraokeAre you ready to rock? I said are you ready to rock?!? Then rat your hair, hop on your hog and ride like a bat outta hell to Greenpoint’s Bar Matchless for Heavy Metal Parking Lot Karaoke.

The free weekly event is hosted by the Kings of Karaoke, who’ve discovered how to stop karaoke from sucking, and instead get karaoke suckling on the devil’s teat: add a DJ. They rock the crowd while you’re warming up your screeching cords, and whip the crowd into a veritable frenzy for your rendition of “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper.”

Just try not to get overexcited. The PBRs may be $3, but no one wants you to spit it all over them.
