Longtime Simpsons writer Mike Reiss—who is also responsible for The Critic, Queer Duck and a series of Christmas books (seriously)—dished on two decades of life in the writer’s room, at 92yTribeca last night. Fans of the show who wanted inside dirt were not disappointed: Reiss revealed who the show’s worst guest star ever was (a certain überfamous talk-show host/mogul…whose name begins with O), his favorite characters (Kent Brockman, Troy McClure, the Alzheimer’s-ridden dad from The Critic) and that his mug was, in fact, the inspiration for the Dustin Hoffman–voiced Mr. Bergstrom (seen in the clip above). Throughout the evening, Reiss cracked jokes (poking fun at his alma mater, he said that a Harvard education is similar to throwing $200,000 in a yard and “lighting it on fire”), interacted with the audience and even kept his cool when the projector in the 92Y’s screening room went on the fritz. D’oh!
