Gyms contest winners: Our readers show us how they rap

Posted in Features, Own This City, Spas & Sport by Billie Cohen on February 13th, 2009 at 8:45 pm

In our recent Get Fit for Less issue, we gave away a Pilates package and a three-month membership to YogaWorks. All readers had to do to win was tell us why they deserved the prize the most…in the form of a rap song. Our grand-prize winner, Zara Bode, sent in this video:

Click on to read Zara’s lyrics and to meet the runner-up who rocked the mike.

    Here are the lyrics…

    I ain’t gotta job.
    Got plenty of time.
Otherwise I wouldn’t be making this fat rhyme
    Luckily I just saw notorious,
I got the beat in me, shit make it glorious.

I’m big girl with big dreams,
Tired bustin’ out all the seams.
I wanna roll out without my rolls out…
I’m ready baby without a doubt.
My ankles sprain all over the place,
My balance whack always fallin’ on my face.
I gotta good man, no worry bout that,
But maybe that’s what keepin’ me fat?
    I’m weighin’ in at 215 on a five-foot frame.
And I’m running out of people to blame.
Need some downward dog to keep me in line.
Salute the sun holler meditate sublime
    Pilates makin’ it hotties!
Come on, TONY, you got my back,
Gettin’ it hotter and tauter than a fresh plate of flapjacks
    Off the griddle, bitch
    No more girdle, bitch
I wanna punch some shit with a gym membership

Wax on wax off wax on wax on wax on wax off

And our runner-up delivered this gem:

Yo, my name is Kelly P
    That’s K to the P
And what I need for me
Is a little more yoga in my life, ya see

    I’m in a holi-daze, oy!
I wanna stop feelin’ laze, boy!
    I need fitness craze
To snap me outta my haze

I need more ohm’s in my life WHAT?!?
    To combat recession strife WHAT?!?
    A little shivasana YES
    For my asana YES

    So please, I’m askin’
Help me outta too much relaxin’
And get me some classes no charge
To keep my size from gettin’ to a large

    Namaste, bitches. WORD.
