Leave it to Phillip Lim to turn his fashion show into a rock show—literally. Downtown hipster and songstress Lissy Trullie performed live as the models strutted down the runway. As always, Lim taps into exactly what women want to wear—and right now, please. Lim’s gift is that he can take an everyday piece and transform it in a subtle yet unexpected way. For instance, he modernized a winter staple—the peacoat—by adding gun-barrel beading, jacquard detailing, and ruffle and pleating accents. Like most other designers who’ve already shown this week, Lim stuck to a (mostly) muted color palette of gray, white, navy and black. I get it: It’s a recession and everyone’s feeling moody, but how about some pops of color? Either way, I’m just hoping Lim creates a diffusion line soon so I can actually afford one of his creations.
