Plenty of designers, Donna Karan among them, are taking bows on the runway this week, but Karan took time out from the serious business of fashion to talk about the serious business of helping people. In the stunning loft above her Urban Zen store on Greenwich Street, Karan addressed a crowd of journalists, integrative health practitioners and child-advocates to discuss the latest initiatives of her Urban Zen Foundation. Among the most recent beneficiaries: students in New York’s public-school system, whom Karan would like to introduce to more holistic, spiritual ways of thinking, in conjunction with the SFK (Spirituality for Kids) organization. She’s also hoping Bent on Learning, a program of yoga in schools, can be introduced to help kids become more centered, loving little beings.
