    Double your Brooklyn Flea

Posted in Own This City, Shopping by Erin Wylie on January 26th, 2009 at 6:13 pm

brooklyn_flea_webIf you haven’t yet visited the Brooklyn Flea’s winter pop-up market in Dumbo, here’s an incentive to go: This weekend marks the debut of a second pop-up flea market in Dumbo. The second market is same time (Sat–Sun; 11am–6pm), different place (81 Front St between Main and Washington Sts).

So why have a Flea, part deux? Eric Demby, man-about-the-Flea, says that the two winter markets are “sorta like a chocolate and peanut butter thing.” The original Dumbo pop-up (76 Front St at Washington St) will continue to feature a refreshing blend of vintage and homemade fashion, housewares, furniture, jewelry, records, etc.—I recently scored an incredible vintage housedress and a photograph from the 1920s—while the second market will spotlight a booth or tableau curated by everyone’s favorite style and design bloggers.

“I don’t know what they’re going to do yet,” says Demby about next weekend’s inaugural host, Daily Candy. “It’ll be a place to hang out and shop.” Other websites that will host a curated spot include Refinery29 and Cool Hunting. “Everyone loves these online entities and here you’ll be meeting the tastemakers who run them,” says Demby. “Everyone loves Cool Hunting, but no one knows who those people are—there’s this online/offline thing.” Essentially, it’ll be like browsing the blogs in real time. But even better: One thing the Internets can’t offer (yet) is Fine & Raw hot chocolate (raw hot chocolate debuting this weekend), tasty BBQ, courtesy of the Kings County BBQ truck that will be stationed out front, and other delectable edibles.

Trying not to spend any moolah? Demby hasn’t forgotten about you: “We’re bringing back the scavenger hunt where we post an item on the blog on Friday and whoever finds it gets it for free.”

    Happy hunting!
