Yesterday I dropped by the Brooklyn Flea’s new holiday market, Gifted. If you were in too much of a post-Thanksgiving holidaze to come out, don’t pout, the market will be held for the next three Sundays. And I’ll surely be back, since I didn’t tick everyone off of my shopping list—I was too busy buying for myself. I picked up some nicely nuanced Phat Beets and tangy Mean Beans by Rick’s Picks (they’re cheaper at the market than they are online or in stores!) and scored vintage earrings from Blue Canary Vintage. But there are tons of other great gifts to ogle, so stop by. Plus, next week, the usual suspects from the Flea will also be housed alongside the special holiday vendors in Fort Greene’s Masonic Temple, which means that neither wind, nor sleet, nor hail can keep you from acquiring gifts.
If you do decide to visit the Flea on December 7, be sure to swing by another cool holiday shop in the area. Textile designer Lena Corwin and fashion designer Caitlin Mociun are hosting a market featuring their own work as well as artwork and housewares by a slew of other independent artists (218 Adelphi St, No. 3, Fort Greene, Brooklyn).
For those who live in Billyburg, head over to Secret Project Santa on December 13 for some more great handmade wares by local designers like Dear Birthday, M. Carter, Unearthen and more. (Visit giftongrand.blogspot.com for more information.)
