At the first of a run of three intimate shows in NYC last night, Moby got back to his roots (insert mandatory bald joke here)—playing earthy arrangements of his hits with a full band. Sporting a Bad Brains T-shirt, Moby (who got his nickname because his great-great-great-granduncle wrote Moby Dick, fact fans) alternated between playing electric guitar and playing drums. Unsurprisingly, the well-heeled crowd roared loudest for the songs from Play, but it was still good to see Moby put some heart into his electrosoul. TONY photographer Taso Hountas was there to catch the action: Check out more of his awesome pics above, and go here to see Moby’s handpicked top ten New York songs.
After the jump: Watch Moby being interviewed about his new album, Wait for Me, by a cartoon dog.

Going tonight in Boston, but have things
to do beforehand, any idea what time Moby will take the stage…
he’ll remember me from last time…
