Outasight — “From Here To Eternity”
Produced by the supertalented 6th Sense, the lead single from Outasight’s From Here to Eternity gives the artist a chance at crossover appeal. If you’re unfamiliar, check out the album preview, mixed by Mick Boogie.
XV — “Mirror’s Edge”
XV may be a bit of an unknown for now, but expect to hear much more from the 23-year-old when his new mixtape, Everybody’s Nobody, drops on July 31. The Seven-produced “Mirror’s Edge” recently made its radio premier on Hot 97, with DJ Enuff showing his support.
Wale — “Pretty Girls”
Following up quick behind the 9th Wonder–produced mixtape Back to the Feature, here’s another joint off Wale’s major-label debut, Attention Deficit. Although it may not have the tie-in of a Lady Gaga feature like his lead single, “Chillin’,” the track certainly embodies the go-go sound, helping the D.C. artist shine.
Convinced — “Saddest Stories”
A true “storytelling” track, based on the idea of finding one’s place in life. As strong as Convinced is on the song, it’s the production of Jansport J that earns the song a spot in the week’s list.
Seven ft. Talib Kweli — “Go Slow”
The legendary DJ Premier applies his magic to Seven’s single, currently featured in the top 20 of the Swiss charts. (Not to be confused with the aforementioned Seven who’s producing for XV.)
50 Cent — “Suicide Watch”
Featured on the Forever King mixtape—a follow-up to his well-received Sincerely Yours Southside—both showing the rapper at his greatest strength: taking other artists’ classics and reworking them for himself. Cuts from both of these projects showcase 50 in a similar light as his early G-Unit mixtapes, and are much stronger than the recently dropped free LP, War Angel.
Erik Flowchild ft. Add 2 — “Walk in the Park”
The Canadian-born MC links up with Add 2 for a cut off of his upcoming mixtape, The Delivery Boy, and the two balance each other’s flows nicely over the funk-inspired canvas.
Serius Jones ft. Omar Wilson — “Gimme That Love”
Serius Jones recently put out a free mixtape, Why So Serius?, but this recent release off the Life Is Serius soundtrack—an accompaniment to a 25-minute documentary about the artist on the come-up—is his best release since he appeared on 88-Keys’ Adam’s Case Files with “Quit Playing.”
