Tonight, the Bell House hosts Death Vessel—the vehicle for Joel Thibodeau’s high, otherworldly voice. Death Vessel is playing in support of Nothing Is Precious Enough for Us, its second album and debut for Sub Pop. TONY spoke with Thibodeau back in 2006, before he had moved from Brooklyn to Rhode Island. “People get tripped up over gender, but there are many ways to affect your voice when you’re singing,” Thibodeau said about his unlikely octave. “During grunge, it sounded like a lot of singers had marbles in their mouths—and that certainly wasn’t the way they spoke.”
