Monday, so often the drab, stay-at-home night of the week, gets a showbizzy makeover tonight: At least three of the artists in today’s show picks have had their mugs splashed across the National Enquirer at some point. Are they any good? Well, there’s much to admire in defiant U.K. pop talent Lily Allen, who plays the Roseland Ballroom tonight in support of her whip-smart sophomore album, It’s Not Me, It’s You. Expect to hear the Hot Seat star’s cover of Britney Spears’s “Womanizer,” as well as a fine line in British cursing. Want something a little more grown-up?
Film-star-turned-actually-pretty-well-thought-of-musician Jeff Daniels brings his warm, bittersweet songs to City Winery.
The most confounding supergroup of recent times, Tinted Windows, comprises members of Hanson, Smashing Pumpkins, Fountains of Wayne and Cheap Trick, and delivers its shiny power pop at the Mercury Lounge.
Keepin’ it real, local doom-metal quartet Bloody Panda plays Public Assembly.
And feminist indie duo Mecca Normal celebrates 25 years of flippin’ the bird at Cake Shop.
