Oh man, am I pissed I’m not in Virginia tonight. After reading Jon Pareles’s article in the Times about the upcoming Phish shows (tonight, tomorrow and Sunday), I really think I should have dragged my ass down there (even with only the promise of a ticket to one show and no place to stay). It seems like they’re actually going to try this time instead of just doing a bunch of blow and partying backstage.
Praise the hippie lord (Jah?), then, that Phish is offering soundboard rips of the shows this weekend. The website will definitely crash, but good to know they’ll be around for a bit. You can access them here.
It’s funny…
…because just last night I was talking to another big Phish phan (deal with the ph; it’s back, baby!) at a bar, and we ended up talking about this Nassau Coliseum show I went to in 2003, where they busted out “Destiny Unbound” for the first time since 1991. A dude sitting in front of me literally ripped his shirt off during the opening chords—Incredible Hulk–style—and swung it over his head for the next seven minutes. It was awesome. If they play that this weekend, then I’m really gonna be pissed.
