My SXSW: By Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, day one: Woodstock V2.9

Posted in The Volume by The Volume on March 25th, 2009 at 4:28 pm

150x-1“Woke up hungover to sun (finally) in Baton Rogue after a four-hour bloodbath at the Spanish Moon featuring The Subjects, Titus Andronicus (Titties Androgynous) and Marnie Stern.”

“…Was feeling pretty down on the Woodstock v2.9 vibe. Clusterfuck doesn’t really even graze the tip of the shitty iceberg. Prolly just 2 much coffee, tho.”

“[I] just want to wail on my big muff and get mumblecore.”

    Day One

“Woke up hungover to sun (finally) in Baton Rogue after a four-hour bloodbath at the Spanish Moon featuring. The Subjects, Titus Andronicus (Titties Androgynous) and Marnie Stern. Will the Brit found a full bottle of vodka in a trash can outside a diner and we put it to proper use.

“Was kinda psyched about going to SXSW for the first time since we left New York couple days ago. [...] Ten hours later (the last three of which occurred over ten miles) was feeling pretty down on the Woodstock v2.9 vibe. Clusterfuck doesn’t really even graze the tip of the shitty iceberg. Prolly just 2 much coffee, tho. I remember being super bummed in 2k5 [2005] because C Taylor and C Bear had joined the Grzzlies and I was stuck in New York and feeling like I had ‘missed the boat.’ Felt like being at South By would mean I was ‘doing it 4 real’. Now I’m just bummed my hotel’s not downtown.

“Getting old sux. Hope I don’t disappoint any ‘fans’ or ‘people with money they foolishly want to invest in the music industry.’ Did enough of that over the past year, kinda hard when people only relate 2 an album I wrote when I was 20-22. Kinda hard when people want me to b ’sensitive and authentic’ but i just want to wail on my big muff and get mumblecore. :( Finally learning 2 appreciate the interest and trying 2 give the people ‘what they want.’ That’s why this time I’m out with a violinist and a pianist. Trying 2 figure out how my personal brand can work with my recordings better (via hipster runoff).

“Was kinda afraid we were gonna get lynched on the way down but we made it. Thanks for not profiling us, yall. Gotta go get a wristband now or no free booze. Miss u, titties androgynous.”
