  • Open: Prime Meats

Having just opened the bar portion of his new venture, Prime Meats, co-owner Frank Castronovo provides some more details on the timeline for full-scale operation. According to Castronovo, in recent weeks “the bar has been open Thursdays to Saturdays to accommodate overflow from Frankies [457 Spuntino], but this particular week, because we received our health certificate, we decided to open the front door.” Right now, only the cocktail menu is available, with beer and wine most likely coming sometime next week, and limited bar food by the first week of March; full use of the dining room—with the entire restaurant menu—is still about three months away. Operating hours will probably vary, but the goal is to be open seven days a week starting March 5, from morning to late night (look for Stumptown coffee and breakfast treats in the a.m. by the second week of March).

Prime Meats, 465 Court St at Luquer St, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn (718-254-0327). Cash only.

This week brings you the TONY Singles issue, with Eat Out delivering the latest on what to wrap your lips around. (Tsk tsk! We’re talking about food here!)

First, there are a number of newly opened restaurants to visit, including a French bistro in Harlem, the Gramercy outpost of a Red Hook sandwich shop and a Texan barbecue joint in Brooklyn. Two new bars have also opened this week: the Raines Law Room and Bar 108.

In reviews, Jay Cheshes visits Alexandra Raij’s Basque small-plates venture, Txikito, bestowing it with four stars. TONY also visits Kambi Ramen House, the sister location of Minca, and gives it three stars.

Topping it off, we reveal our love for the rosemary-lime cookies at Get Fresh Table and Market, and chef Brad Farmerie (Public, Double Crown) takes us to his ‘hood, Carroll Gardens (as well as Cobble Hill), and shows us where to shop and what to get (make sure to watch the online video version).

And don’t forget, every week we bring you handpicked food and bar events, often cheap and sometimes free.
