  • What to expect at tonight’s East Coast meets West Coast rabbit dinner

A few lucky locavores went down the rabbit hole in Brooklyn last night for a special five-course lapin-themed menu. The meal—which took place in a candlelit Airstream trailer—was a collaboration between Bay Area chef Chris Kronner (Bar Tartine) and Diner’s own Sean Rembold. Read more »

    Aftermath: The UnFancy Food Show

Posted in Eat Out by Gabriella Gershenson on June 29th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Local foodists came out to Williamsburg en masse on a hot and sticky Sunday to sample the wares at the UnFancy Food Show, a celebration of artisan foods and a casual counterpoint to the Javits-hosted behomoth of a similar name. The all-stars were there, doling out nibbles—some for free, others for a small fee. Marlow & Sons prepared small brisket-and-whitefish-salad sliders, Salvatore Bklyn offered $3 prosciutto, arugula and ricotta sandwiches, and Sweet Deliverance had some not-too-sweet (i.e., just right for us) sweet tea. But that wasn’t all. Click through the slide show for more highlights.

New Amsterdam Market benefit paves way to permanence

Just like this City, New Amsterdam Market is being built on oyster shells.

Just like this city, New Amsterdam Market is being built on oyster shells.

Last Saturday, The Feed attended the first benefit of the New Amsterdam Market, an organization that is working to re-create an old-style indoor public market in New York City. Titled “Founded on Oyster Shells,” the fund-raiser offered samples of some of the best local artisanal products currently being produced (East Coast oysters on the half shell, pickled foods from Beer Table and Marlow & Sons, a selection of domestic draft beers from Beer Table, bread baked with spent grain and cheese from Saxelby Cheesemongers, among other delicacies). They also held a silent auction, which included prizes like the opportunity to help birth a lamb, and a meal with Alice Waters.

Today we hear from director Robert LaValva about the outcome of the event: Read more »
