Clink glasses with Julie Reiner and David Wondrich at Clover Club.
Every joker with access to a hot plate and a Boston shaker is doing supper clubs these days. But count on Clover Club—a 2009 Eat Out Award winner and perhaps the city’s greatest cocktail bar—to do it right.
What does “doing it right” entail? David Wondrich, for one. The cocktail historian will be on hand during a cocktail hour to talk timeless tipples with CC owner Julie Reiner. Next up is a three-course meal from chef Craig Rivard (rack of lamb, “Statesman Soup” with quail confit), paired with wine. If you didn’t know Clover Club had (a) a chef and (b) a wine list, well, now you know. The cost: a pricey but likely worth-it $135 (plus tax and tip).
Announced today: Tickets to the seminars, hoedowns and demonstrations that make up Lesley Townsend’s bookish booze bacchanal go on sale Monday at 7:33pm. (Are we supposed to know the significance of this hour? Might it have something to do with, hm, the repeal of Prohibition?) The talent is multiple—all the usual suspects that you’d want to see (Philip Ward, Julie Reiner, David Wondrich, etc., etc.) will be participating in the weekend fest. Check out the bill of fare here. Save the dates (October 3 and 4)—because New York really does deserve its own version of Tales of the Cocktail. And commuting to the Astor Center is much easier than flying down to NOLA.
Ah, synergy. On the heels of this afternoon’s announcement that the Astor Center will be debuting an expanded space in time for the NYCWFF, the Feed hears that former AC worker bee Lesley Townsend is organizing a festival of her own.
A preview of the Manhattan Cocktail Classic is planned for October 3 and 4 (the weekend prior to the NYCWFF) and will feature panels and discussions with some of the country’s greatest bar talent. You know the names: Dale DeGroff, Sasha Petraske, Julie Reiner, Dave Wondrich—it’s like a micro Tales of the Cocktail without the po’ boys! (Bummer—everyone loves a po’ boy.)

Probably unbeknownst to you, yesterday was the 203rd anniversary of the birth of the cocktail, and what better way to celebrate than by downing terrific tipples mixed by nearly two dozen top mixologists like Dale DeGroff, Gary Regan, Dave Wondrich, Audrey Saunders and other boozy luminaries. The bacchanalian extravaganza took place at Pranna, with the proceeds benefiting the Museum of the American Cocktail in New Orleans. Read more »

What you definitely won't see at tonight's Beards gala.
We all know professional kitchens aren’t particularly femme-friendly. The same goes for many bars—unless a lady has plans to dance on it, or pour shots down fratboy gullets, that is.
But there will be no such nonsense at tonight’s James Beard Foundation Awards gala, at which a collection of the country’s most talented female bar talent will be manning (womanning?) the cocktail stations. Look out for NYC talent like Julie Reiner (Clover Club) and Audrey Saunders (Pegu Club), along with barkeeps-at-large Lynette Marrero, Charlotte Voisey and Aisha Sharpe.
Can’t make it tonight? We’ve got the next best thing: Check out their recipes for this evening’s event after the jump. Read more »

A sampling of bitters. (Photo: Michael Anstendig)
Cocktail bitters, unsung heroes of the libation world, got their props yesterday at Julie Reiner’s Clover Club in Brooklyn. Artisanal drink jockeys like Jim Meehan and Don Lee (PDT), Alex Day and Joaquin Simo (Death & Company) and even the honorable king of cocktails, Dale DeGroff, were on hand for an educational immersion into this macerated realm. Julie Reiner's Ruby Fizzes
As if the spirits scene weren’t florid enough: Last night the petal-pushers at Gran Centenario launched Rosangel—a hibiscus-infused tequila. TONY was there, bouquet in hand (no, not really).
The event took place at the very retro Ella lounge in the East Village, where tipplers, media types and mixologists were treated to Rosangel cocktails by reigning bar queen Julie Reiner (Flatiron Lounge, Clover Club) and insights by booze critic Paul Pacult. Read more »
