At last night’s Hendrick’s burlesque party, held at the New Orleans Roosevelt Hotel (N.B. There’s something about the freezing cold that creates a deep craving for Scotch whiskey. Happily, Louis 649 recently obliged with a vertical tasting of the Balvenie single-malts, led by Sam Simmons, its brand ambassador and a self-confessed whiskey nerd. The Doublewood was poured first, with citrus and chocolate notes from 12 years in bourbon barrels, and a whiff of baking spices from nine months in oloroso sherry casks. Read more »
