Will Lee's soju-slushies induce a Super-Squishee–like stupor?
Team Momofuku isn’t taking the 7-Eleven invasion (and its attendant slushies) sitting down. This morning Eater shared the news that Momo barman Don Lee would soon be introducing a “lemon-sochu flavored slushie”—cranked out of a Senor Swanky’s–style margarita machine—at Noodle Bar.
Now a wily neighbor tells us that the drink of record is a watermelon-basil lemonade made with soju. More exciting: She’s a’churnin’ as we speak. Go forth and get a brain freeze—and a fruity soju soda, also debuting—tonight!
If the duties of a brand ambassador seem a bit vague, consider the task appointed to Hendrick’s Gin delegate Charlotte Voisey. At last night’s Hendrick’s burlesque party, held at the New Orleans Roosevelt Hotel (N.B. This is the birthplace of the Sazerac cocktail), we found her dressed in a winged fairy-princess costume, which she wore for the duration of the event. TONY would never do that to us. Oh wait. The Feed paid a visit to Momofuku Ssäm Bar last night to case this cocktail situation. The essentials: This isn’t a Tailor setup. Ssäm isn’t any more of a bar than it was before this tipular chatter first hit the blogs. It’s a restaurant with a cocktail list designed to dovetail with the food (and how—whiskey does wonders with pork sausage and rice cakes). According to GM Cory Lane, Wednesday was night two of a soft launch for the new program, overseen by PDT’s Don Lee. Tonight the list goes full gallop.
PDT barkeep Don Lee swings by our sandbox to flaunt his cool new toy—a custom-cut acrylic stencil that allows him to stamp shapes on top of cocktail foam using bitters. Like latte art, if lattes could make you recite sonnets and lose your cell phone. Read more »

Cocktail bitters, unsung heroes of the libation world, got their props yesterday at Julie Reiner’s Clover Club in Brooklyn. Artisanal drink jockeys like Jim Meehan and Don Lee (PDT), Alex Day and Joaquin Simo (Death & Company) and even the honorable king of cocktails, Dale DeGroff, were on hand for an educational immersion into this macerated realm. Leave it to Don Lee and Alex Day—the charismatic warlocks of PDT and Death & Company—to do what Mr. Wizard never could. Friday night’s Cocktail Chemistry class at the Astor Center focused on infusions—both the kind that yield commercial products (gin, vermouth) and the sort of inventive alchemy that produces potable juggernauts like PDT’s bacon old-fashioned. Oh, what fun chemistry can be when your cheeks are flushed and there’s no jock threatening you with a Bunsen burner. Read more »
The tipular swells were out in full force last night at an event announcing a partnership between Saveur magazine and New Orleans mixology congress, Tales of the Cocktail. An artfully bearded David Wondrich cohosted the fete, which went down in Eben Freeman’s subterranean lounge at Tailor. Read more »
