If the duties of a brand ambassador seem a bit vague, consider the task appointed to Hendrick’s Gin delegate Charlotte Voisey. At last night’s Hendrick’s burlesque party, held at the New Orleans Roosevelt Hotel (N.B. This is the birthplace of the Sazerac cocktail), we found her dressed in a winged fairy-princess costume, which she wore for the duration of the event. TONY would never do that to us. Oh wait. From beer towers to stripper poles, the Bar Show had every gimmick imaginable, even this shameless tequila-shot ice slide. Open wide! (Photo: Michael Anstendig)
While we at the Feed generally promote spirituous discernment, the annual Bar Show reminds us what most watering holes are really all about: getting drunk, playing silly games, ogling hotties and maybe even getting laid. This unabashedly politically incorrect trade event at the Javits Center on June 14 and 15 was packed with often questionable booze, promo models in Daisy Duke shorts and “entertainment,” from flashy beer-pong sets to mechanical bulls. For anyone seeking to open a bar—speakeasy, biker bar, cowboy bar or strip club—this is your one-stop shop. For everyone else, it’s a spring-break regression in a professional disguise. Click through for the slide show and more depraved diversions.Read more »

The legendary Dale DeGroff makes a rare behind-the-bar appearance, showing those young'uns how it's done. (Photo: Michael Anstendig)
Probably unbeknownst to you, yesterday was the 203rd anniversary of the birth of the cocktail, and what better way to celebrate than by downing terrific tipples mixed by nearly two dozen top mixologists like Dale DeGroff, Gary Regan, Dave Wondrich, Audrey Saunders and other boozy luminaries. The bacchanalian extravaganza took place at Pranna, with the proceeds benefiting the Museum of the American Cocktail in New Orleans. Read more »

You scarfed chorizo tapioca at JoeDoe, marveled at Dave Arnold and Johnny Iuzzini’s cocktail wizardry, and went trotter to trotter with April Bloomfield at the Spotted Pig. Now the Dining & Libation Society has cooked up another TONY-sponsored tour de force, this time at LES speakeasy the Eldridge. The very dishy mixologist Charlotte Voisey is the marquee talent on Monday April 13—she’ll be mixing up a range of Hendrick’s gin cocktails (the cucumber-spiked spirit joins Aperol; clementine, pineapple and lime juices; and—Dow be damned—gold flakes in the “Little Miss Hendrick’s”). The booze (and beer) will flow freely from 6:30 to 8:30pm, which should be plenty of time to pose your most pressing restaurant and bar questions to Eat Out’s own Jordana Rothman, who will also be on hand. We hear she gets awful chatty with a few drinks in her. Where to go for tickets ($40), you ask? Right this way.
