While New Yorkers slept off their July 4th revelries, a cadre of ardent bartenders— and some writers, too—braved the light of day (a rare occasion for this vampire-esque lot) to travel up to the Tuthilltown Distillery near New Paltz, New York, to observe distillation firsthand and drink deeply of its handcrafted Hudson whiskeys. From beer towers to stripper poles, the Bar Show had every gimmick imaginable, even this shameless tequila-shot ice slide. Open wide! (Photo: Michael Anstendig)

Penthouse Potables—no, not that—is the latest bash dreamed up by TONY’s Dining & Libation society. Unlike previous events, Eat Out didn’t pick the talent for this one. But kudos to Team Marketing, who scooped up mixologist Brian Van Flandern (Per Se, Bemelmans Bar) to mix tequila cocktails. Also expect limitless Radeberger beer and grub from NYC caterer Dish Food & Events. Gilding the lily: a spectacular view from the penthouse of the Hotel on Rivington, where the party goes down on May 5. Tickets are just $25—get ’em here.
