The following restaurants and bars are expected to open by June 17. As always, call ahead before going, since opening dates vary.
Der Schwarze Kölner Manchester, England, native and former Cologne resident Dale Hall, along with his girlfriend, Randi Lockemann, gives Fort Greene its first German beer garden. Eighteen Deutsch brews will be on tap, along with another 20 by the bottle. In keeping with Hall’s Cologne pedigree, three breweries from that city will represent. In addition to the beers, the space—which features communal tables indoors and both sidewalk and garden seating—will serve traditional foods. Cold items like wurst and cheese plates will be coming first, and hot dishes, including schnitzel and even more sausage, a couple months later. 710 Fulton St at South Oxford St, Fort Greene, Brooklyn (no phone yet)
Mesa Coyoacan Chef Ivan Garcia (Mercadito) explores his Mexico City roots at this eatery, named for the neighborhood where he grew up. Though the space is in a modern metal and glass building, it’s been given warm accents with vintage wallpaper and communal tables. The food echoes the multiregional snacks you might find on the capital city’s streets: A trio of tamales presents versions from Oaxaca (chicken and mole), Chapas (pork, fruit and nuts) and Veracruz (tilapia with guajillo salsa). Other preparations come straight from the chef’s family, including a secret-recipe ceviche. 372 Graham Ave between Conselyea St and Skillman Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-782-8171)
