If you’re searching for a place to treat your favorite mushroom lover this holiday season, look no further than Babbo. From now until supplies run out (probably after Christmas), the restaurant is offering a three-course porcini tasting menu for $59. For the antipasto course, you’ll get porcini with arugula and Parmesan cheese. The pasta is pappardelle with porcini and thyme, followed by hanger steak served with sautéed porcini and porcini-mustard vinaigrette. Unlike Babbo’s other tasting menus, the whole table does not have to order it. Good news for those who don’t share their guests’ enthusiasm for ’shrooms.
If TONY’s Hell’s Kitchen walking tour whet your appetite for even more of the ‘hood’s culinary offerings, check out Rum & Blackbird, now running tasting tours in midtown’s culinary crown jewel. Founder Moira Campbell leads the curious and hungry to seven distinctive eateries including the Eat Out–approved Gazala Palace, Poseidon Bakery and more. The three-hour sessions depart Thursday to Sunday at 11:30am and 2:30pm. Reservations are required; head to the website or call Zerve at 212- 209-3370. $49 includes all tastings.

Benno plating at Per Se.
Chef Jonathan Benno will depart Per Se in January for a new project, but you can sample his goods before he’s gone at the latest installment of the restaurant’s American Table series. The dinner, on Wednesday, November 18, will highlight bounty from Lee Hudson, proprietor of the Napa Valley’s Hudson Vineyards and the Farm at Hudson Ranch. For $375 a head, you’ll get a seven-course meal conceived by Benno and farmer Scott Boggs, using ingredients sourced primarily from Hudson’s kingdom.
The dishes, as you might expect, are super seasonal—think heirloom squash with sage leaves and brown-butter emulsion—and all are paired with wines produced in the same place the food is grown. Hudson will be on hand as you chomp and and sip to chat about where it all comes from and offer insights into the American wine biz. If you’re feeling guilty about the price tag, just think of it this way: Getting back on budget is as easy as buying cheap holiday gifts this season. Black Friday, here we come…
Dinner begins with a standing reception at 6:30; guests will be seated at 7pm. Reservations are required.
We’re not sure about you, but this week’s food-and-beer pairing tutorial with Beer Table’s Justin Philips has got us jonesing for some good grub and good brews (preferably both at the same time). But one question remains: Is brunch too early for beers?
Not according to Jimmy’s No. 43 (43 E 7th St between Second and Third Aves; 212-982-300, jimmysno43.com): This Sunday from 1 to 3pm, the East Village beer haven hosts a book signing and beer-pairing brunch ($55; reservations recommended) with Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune, authors of The Naked Pint: An Unadulterated Guide to Craft Beer. As you might guess from the venue, the menu focuses on local slow foods and craft suds—expect courses like Russ & Daughters‘ smoked salmon paired with Kostritzer Black Lager, and a bacon-and-beer pasta alongside Duvel’s Maredsous 6.
If you’re feeling intimidated by a situation involving “beer sommeliers,” don’t be—the spirit of the event is learning, so newbies and beer geeks alike are welcome. As long as you brush up on the basics with our quick and easy Beer 101 lesson, you should have no trouble keeping up with the Naked gals as they discuss the pairing choices.

Starting tonight, Superdive–which has already earned its fratboy cred by offering keg service—ups the ante even further with Champagne Tuesdays. Here’s the deal: $20 buys all-you-can-drink bubbly served out of a bathtub on wheels…by a little person…and yes, he’s dressed like a pirate. It’s either a terrifying sign of the apocalypse or the best excuse ever to miss Melrose Place. There’s only one way to find out.
There’s nothing quite like a free lunch to get you through hump day. Korean import New York Hotdog & Coffee obliges with a free Kimchi Burger for the first 100 customers to show up this Wednesday, starting at 12:30pm. More good news? The West Village eatery will be offering these midweek giveaways throughout the month of September, so be sure to follow @NYHDC for updates on the what and when. Breath mints not included.
