Bad news for burger lovers: Approximately 545,699 pounds of ground-beef products sold by Trader Joe’s, BJ’s and Price Chopper—among other stores in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania—are being recalled for possible E. coli contamination. The beef, which was distributed by Fairbank Farms in Ashville, New York, was flagged on October 31 by the Food Safety and Inspection Service, and applies to patties packaged between September 15 and 16, with a sell-by date from September 19 to the 28. Wary consumers should be on the lookout for “EST. 492” inside the USDA mark of inspection. For the complete recall notice, visit the FSIS website.—Julia Fleming
