The Feed first look: Manhattan Inn

Last month TONY examined food and drink trends past, present and future. In the bars category we considered speakeasies (past), beer gardens (present) and the future arrival of what we dubbed “renaissance bars,” neighborhood spots with serious intentions on all fronts—cocktails, beers, wines, even food. The example we gave for the new prototype was Manhattan Inn, a then yet-to-arrive gastropub from the owners of Greenpoint’s Glasslands Gallery, Brooke Baxter and Rolyn Hu. Well, as they say, the future is now, and Manhattan Inn is expected to open to the public next week, on November 4th.

The space’s weathered decor is composed mostly of recycled items, including doorknobs that double as beer-tap handles and old schoolhouse desks refashioned as small bar tables. James Endicott, a Per Se and Allen & Delancey alum, is behind the drinks. His cocktails include the Manhattan’s Manhattan (rye, Carpano Antica, Mirto and oak-aged bitters), and he also curated a selection of six drafts like Victory Prima Pils and Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, along with a brief international wine list. True to the renaissance bar moniker, there’s food and entertainment, too: Look for dishes like shepherd’s pie and live piano in the 55-seat dining room.

Next time I visit NYC, I will definitely visit this restaurant as my nephew took the picture. Well done Sean.

      Cheers,
      Mari

I went here for a date last night and it was fabulous. The Manhattan’s Manhattan might need a little tweaking–it’s a touch sweet–but the bar looks amazing! Fabulous ambiance and decor; the reclaimed desks and stools and theatre seats in the back give it a great feel. Kudos to the designer. now…are they hiring?
