The following restaurants and bars are expected to open by August 26. As always, openings dates can change, so call ahead to confirm.
Trattoria Cinque Iconic images from 1960s Italy dominate the room at this lofty, retro Tribeca restaurant. Each section of the menu contains five dishes that the chef, Mirco Grassini (Alfredo of Rome), considers Italy’s most important. Among the five appetizers is a Caesar salad (technically invented in Mexico, but who’s counting?) made to-order in the dining room, while the quintet of entrées includes simply prepared dishes like roasted halibut with cherry tomatoes and olives. 363 Greenwich St between Franklin and Harrison Sts (212-965-0555)
Forty Eight This massive Swarovski-crystal-bejeweled lounge opens on the ground floor of the McGraw-Hill Building. Mixed drinks designed by Art of the Drink vlogger Anthony Caporale are grouped by theme: “Wanderlust” includes global creations like the St. Zipang (elderflower liqueur, sake, yuzu juice); the oxymoronic “Wellness” section features sugar-free cocktails such as the Steve Collins (gin, lemon, lime, ginger and stevia sweetener). Nearly every item on the international wine list, assembled by the folks at Crush Wine & Spirits, is available by the glass, and small plates include a mini Cuban sandwich, and baked shrimp with chorizo. 1221 Sixth Ave at 48th St (212-554-4848)
River Walk Bar and Grill Co-owners and brothers Jonathan and Salvatore Hoo hope to fill a void in Roosevelt Island’s dining scene with this casual bar and eatery. Alfonse Dicioccio—who owns nearby Nonno’s Focacceria—is also involved, but you won’t find much pizza here: The staunchly all-American menu sticks to burgers, hefty salads and fried finger food. 425 Main St between Road 5 and West Rd (646-833-7050)
SarahJames The owners describe this Brooklyn newcomer as a speakeasy, but its bright-yellow exterior and lack of a full liquor license don’t exactly support the secret-cocktail-den image. What you will find—assuming you make it past the door, where a dress code prohibits sneakers, baggy jeans and hooded sweatshirts—are varied plates like shrimp scampi linguine and citrus-teriyaki pork chops, along with beers (Amstel, Corona) and wines from South America, the U.S. and Italy. 217 Pulaski St between Marcus Garvey Blvd and Throop
Ave, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn (no phone)
Bianca’s HeadQuarters gentlemen’s club reopens its upstairs steakhouse with a new name, chef and menu. 550 W 38th St between Tenth and Eleventh Aves (212-967-4646)
Financier Patisserie A fourth location of this café and bakery opens in midtown. 983 First Ave at 54th St (212-419-0100).
Pollo Cafécito Cuban restaurant Cafécito has opened a takeout annex. 185 Ave C between 11th and 12th Sts (212-253-9966)
