Contrary to premature reports, the lobby bar at the much-discussed Ace Hotel opened to the public last Friday. Though the Breslin—the hotel’s upcoming Ken Friedman–April Bloomfield restaurant—won’t be showing up until late July or so, that hasn’t stopped the duo from providing snacks and cocktails for the bar. Bloomfield’s booze-friendly creations for the Ace include fried pork rinds (”pork scratchings” in Brit parlance, per Friedman), her version of Cracker Jacks, salt-and-vinegar potato chips and spiced almonds. Cocktails, meanwhile, come courtesy of Spotted Pig vets Kristin Bronsen and Michelle Brotherton. Not surprisingly, they also skew British: look out for a Pimm’s Cup and the Breslin Bloody Mary, featuring organic tomato juice and house-pickled veggies.
