…in other restaurant news, UES neighborhood stalwart Paola’s is moving from its East 84th Street perch to replace Joanna’s in the nearby Wales Hotel. The move can be chalked up to that perennial issue: loss of lease. When we caught up with owner Paolo Bottero, who also brought us Sarah Jenkins at the now-closed 50 Carmine, she insisted that regulars needn’t freak—many beloved items are staying on the menu (pasta amatriciana, duck ragù with pappardelle and veal-and-spinach agnolotti, to name a few—though we’re not sure about the fate of the fried artichokes, pictured.) The transition should be taking place around the end of January, though no opening date has been set. Chefs, take note: Bottero is looking for a rising star—contact her at the restaurant if you’re the one.
