Alex Raij has been laying low since her split from Tia Pol and Quinto Pino owner Mani Dawes last May, but TONY has it straight from the lady’s boca that she’s had plenty to keep her busy.
Later this fall, Raij will open Txikito (that’s "chee-KEE-to"), a Basque pintxos bar, with her husband, Eder Montero (also a Tia Pol vet). The 34-seat restaurant takes its name from the Euskera term for a short pour of wine—here you’ll be mining an all-Basque list, along with shareable plates like bacalao pil pil, a cod dish sauced with its own emulsified liquids. Raij also plans to offer zurracapote, a cinnamon-spiked wine cocktail in short supply at most of NYC’s sangriacentric Spanish eateries.
The restaurant will open at 240 Ninth Avenue between 24th and 25th Streets. For those not familiar with this Chelsea stretch, a little context: The space is just across the way from Jim Lahey’s forthcoming Neapolitan pizza joint, Co., and just a croqueta’s toss from both Quinto Pino and Tia Pol.
Grab a cava, people; this should be good.

Yeah Alex & Eder!!! Will look forward to visiting. Loved Tia Pol & I know you two have great palates and boundless creativity. Excited!
