It’s not so much the "Sloppy veg head" Joe, or the beet risotto that caught my eye at this afternoon’s Ray Ray cooking demo. Girlfriend has the media training down pat. One has to wonder how many times she’s told the story of setting Emeril’s test kitchen on fire on Day One at the Food Network. "The funny thing is they still hired me…suckers." Indeed.
But there’s more! With a voice as grizzled and strained as Anne Meara’s, Ray Ray knocked the audience Q&A out of the park.
Q: Where do you like to go for vacation?
A: We go to Italy every year and bring our whole family. It’s the only DIDDY thing we do.
Q: How do you stay so thin?
A: I don’t. I buy clothing with stretch and in dark colors.
And this unsoliciited gem:
"My first word was vino. My grandfather used to mix his homemade wine into my formula. Everyone always thought I was such a good baby because my cheeks were always rosy and I was always sleeping."
But we did get some good restaurant suggestions out of her. For Italian food she likes a little place called Dell’anima. For Indian, Tamarind and Devi. Daisy May’s is "the best Bee Bee Kew in the city hands down," and for brunch: "There’s a woman named Vicki and her husband Marc. They own two fabulous restaurants Cookshop and Five Points. Actually I think they have a new one. It’s called Country Table or something."
Yes, or something
