    Coming in November: Bespoke Chocolates

Posted in Eat Out by Gabriella Gershenson on October 21st, 2008 at 6:10 pm

This just in from budding chocolatier Rachel Zoe Insler, previously of the pastry kitchen at Union Square Cafe and now the owner and mastermind of the soon-to-open Bespoke Chocolates. We were introduced to her fine confections while judging the 2008 PastryScoop.com Golden Scoop Awards (she won). What got us hooked: her ridiculously good salted caramel truffles (pictured), encrusted in pretzel shards. Ever since then, the Eat Out section has been after her to finally debut the store so we can eat more chocolate. This e-mail, sent today by Insler, gives us cause to celebrate. Two pieces of good news (we cherry-picked the best for you):

    (1) BESPOKE CHOCOLATES HAS AN OFFICIAL ADDRESS!

The lease on the shop has been signed and it looks like our fabulous landlord will be turning over the keys on Halloween. Scary, yes, but also exciting! By the end of November, you will be able to visit us in the East Village at 6 Extra Place, New York, NY, 10003.

    And…

    (3) THANKSGIVING CHOCOLATES

No matter the status of the shop, we will be taking orders for Thanksgiving, so please stay tuned for more information about that!

What could that mean? Chocolate turkeys…chocolate corn…chocolate pumpkins…chocolate cranberries…chocolate…chocolate. We can hardly wait. Stay tuned.

I’ve had the opportunity to taste a few of Rachel Insler’s other chocolate creations. One of my favorites so far: a chocolate spread with just the right amount of sea salt that is truly addictive.

I just wanted to know where 6 Extra Place is? Never heard of that street anywhere in Manhattan. Thanks.

Here’s a link to a map of Extra Place. It’s near the Bowery:

I love their chocolate…Extra Place is a tiny street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue off East 1st Street. Its directly across from the enterence to the AvalonBowery building.

I’ve been in love with her chocolates, ever since I’ve stumbled across them at a party. I haven’t been able to find them again and cannot wait for this store to open!!!

Good luck Rachel, you are very talented with a great eye and palate.
Look forward to crossing the pond next year and trying your creations.

My husband and I just moved into the Avalon Bowery and have gotten wind of a Creative Arts Center opening, anyone heard? We have a 5 year old and one on the way and we did not realize how desperately this neighborhoods needs this! Please, tell me it’s true!!!
