The simply written mission statement of Citysearch’s new food blog, The ____bag, had us with its everyman charm. "The spirit of The ____bag is that of a peripatetic omnivore, a tireless and voracious entity that loves food," wrote senior editor Josh Ozersky. Lovely! That is, until we noticed this disturbing detail: "Expect news, features, guest columns from some of the top men in the field.…" Hmm…. So I guess if Ruth Reichl, Anne Burrell, Lidia Bastianich, Marcella Hazan or Alice Waters wanted to contribute, Citysearch just wouldn’t be interested…

I take it back! A number of the top men in the field are women. In our haste to express ourselves in the old-timey style, we came off as unconscionably sexist! In point of fact all of the above women would make fine columnists for The Feedbag. We will mend our language and mend our ways.
Nice catch. I’m interested to see how this is defended!
Oh, sour grapes!
Obviously he doesn’t intend to omit females from his blog. The issue here is that this kind of oversight could occur at all. Perhaps Ozersky needed that top editor afterall. “The better to protect him from himself.”
