It sounds like a culinary rendition of "Ebony and Ivory", and costs about as much as a baby grand. I speak of none other than the blockbuster meal that is set to take place at Per Se on November 11—20 courses alternating the exacting classicism of Thomas Keller with the forward-thinking plates of Alinea’s Grant Achatz for $1,500 (on the bright side: wine, tip and taxes are included). The meal honors "the mentor and protégé," per the press release—a reference to Achatz’s time at French Laundry, no doubt—and will include signed copies of Achatz’s new book, Alinea, and Keller’s Under Pressure. Though the menu’s not set, says Achatz, who gave us the scoop: "Likely it will include a few Alinea and Keller classics, like the oysters and pearls from him and the hot potato-cold potato from me…with a few new ones in the mix." Oh boy, the elite get to eat. Any of those seats given as gifts to an underpriveleged person or even just a Joe Shmoe, I doubt it! Who cares about these ass clowns any way. They only impress each other and a few lucky ones who can afford a mortgage payment to have dinner at those restaurants. The rest of us want to eat too. I’ll take a “BAM” chef any day over these two smug turds.
