The latest addition to Essex Street Market’s stable of food vendors is a second location of La Tiendita, the “girl-made and fair trade gift shop and café” that originated on 1st Street in 2006.
A product of the Lower East Side Girls Club, a social outreach venture for local teens, La Tiendita will offer “healthy granola bars, dried spice mixes, salsa, sofrito, pesto and a variety of other goods made from farm fresh foods.”
The part that really makes us go all Troop Beverly Hills? The booth will be staffed by neighborhood girls and young mothers. Sounds like Kenny Shopsin is going to have to start minding his language.
