The pick: Soft-serve frozen yogurt from /eks/ (488 Driggs Ave between North 9th and 10th Sts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn; 718-599-1706)
Hours: Deliveries are Mon–Sat 3–11pm; Sun 3–10pm.
Delivery range: "We do Williamsburg and Greepoint and a little bit further, and that’s about it," says store manager Kelly Raymond. Minimum order: $8.
The fan: It’s Gabriella Gershenson, Eat Out editor, who admits with a bit of culpability, "Okay, I’ve never ordered from this place, per se. [Ed note: She lives on the Upper West Side.] But if I lived in Billyburg, I would be curling up with a pint of the plain frozen yogurt with the mochi topping every night." The 12 ounces of plain yogurt—"It’s more since we overfill the cup," says Raymond—endowed with a refreshing tartness and live cultures, with a generous dose of addictive gummy mochi, is her poison of choice. It goes for $6.34, plus the $1 surcharge for all deliveries (subsequently, /eks/ doesn’t expect you to tip). "That would be close enough to the $8," Raymond assures us.
The container: A 12-ounce cup that’s printed with the same red-and-white Murakami-esque motif (designed by owner Neo Kim, who’s also an artist) that’s painted on the walls of the store
The extras: Spoons and napkins. Not so exotic. But it is pretty unusual that Kim makes all of the deliveries himself, toting a red-and-white cooler that "matches the store," says Raymond. "Now that it’s really cold outside," she adds, "it doesn’t melt at all."
