We suspect you already know that we here at Time Out Kids are big fans of Dan Zanes. Perhaps the coolest thing about the iconic kiddie crooner is that he tackles myriad musical styles, from folk to punk to rock ‘n’ roll. But with his new album, 76 Trombones, he goes where he’s never gone before: the Great White Way. Not only does he cover classic Broadway tunes, he welcomes a number of Main Stem regulars as guests, including Matthew Broderick and Brian Stokes Mitchell. We’re giving five copies of the CD in honor of its November 17th release. Click here to enter to win!
If you can spare one of the masterpieces hanging on your refrigerator (um, yeah), send your kid’s best holiday-themed work to Lands’ End for a chance to win a gift card of up to $500. If your little Picasso’s piece is picked, it will also be showcased on the company’s website. So whip out those crayons and have Junior get to it; anything from snowmen to menorahs will do. Last year’s winners included a picture of a girl catching snowflakes on her tongue and a cute-as-pie penguin holding a gift.

With Halloween just two weeks away, you’re probably up to your ears in costume prep for your kids. Well keep sewing (or purchasing!), and when you’ve got your tot’s get-up ready, snap a picture of the little goblin all dolled-up and send it over to us. Based on the uniqueness of the creepy couture—and your comments—we’ll pick a winner, who will snag four tickets to a Jazz for Young People concert at Lincoln Center. Take at peek at the submissions we’ve received so far, then enter your own.

Think you’ve got the cutest kid ever? Of course you do! Well, now’s your chance to show the world how adorable your pint-sized cat-walker is (besides submitting him or her to our Cutest Kids Gallery, of course!). GapKids and babyGap are launching a national casting call to find the next set of fresh faces to grace the chain’s windows from coast-to-coast. Babies and kids up to age 10 are eligible to enter to win a slew of prizes, including a Disney on Broadway package in New York or Las Vegas, a $1,000 Gap gift card and the grand price: the coveted ad campaign. All parents have to do is upload a photo to gap.com/castingcall from Sep 22-Oct 22. Even better: Gap’s flagship store at 54th St and Fifth Ave is offering free professional photo shoots from Oct 7–22 on a drop-in basis. Get your kid to start perfecting that pose!
Assuming your kid isn’t afflicted with a peanut allergy, this contest is totally tasty: Every fall, Jif sponsors its “Creative Peanut Butter Contest for Kids” which invites youngsters ages 6 to 12 to submit recipes for any concoction they can create—so long as it includes peanut butter. Last year, Jordyn Boyer was crowned the peanut queen for her Po’ Boy Peanut Butter Chicken Cheesesteak and took home $25,000 for her college fund. Four runner-ups snagged a cool $2,500 each. Sounds like it’s time for you and your brood to start experimenting!

Is your daughter a diva in the vocal sense of the word? Does she dream of starring on Broadway? Then have we got the contest for you. Nick.com is hosting the Shrek The Musical® “Not Your Ordinary Princess Broadway Competition (now that’s a mouthful!) to cast the roles of Young Fiona and Teen Fiona in the show for one day: Saturday, September 19th. The winners and one parent (which is a little lame. Surely mom and dad want to see their progeny shine!) will be flown to New York City (lucky you, you already live here!) to perform on the Great White Way alongside the all-star cast. So if you have a star-struck girl between the ages of six and 14, record her singing the song “I Know It’s Today” and upload the video at Nick.com. Don’t know the song? Well you can watch Tony winner Sutton Foster sings it on the site too. There’s even a karaoke version! As marketing campaigns go, this is a pretty fabulous one!
