So many shows to see, so little money to spend on them! It’s a holiday headache that’s hitting everyone hard this year. We share in your frustration, that’s why we’ve rounded up a bunch of discounts to family shows.
Love the New Victory? We sure do. The theater’s raucous holiday show, Chestnuts Roasting on the Flaming Idiots, is likely to be a smash. Snag tickets to the show, which opens December 4th, for 20% off by using code TOKids when purchasing.
Haven’t seen Wintuk or The Radio City Christmas Spectacular yet? Well, what are you waiting for? Use discount code EM1040 to receive a whopping 40% off select performances of Wintuk, and code TONYK for $50 orchestra and first mezzanine seats at select performances of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Just be forewarned: Both offers expire November 29.
Parents may know Mitchell from his stage performances in the original Ragtime and the most recent revival of Kiss Me, Kate (for which he snagged a Tony). If your kids haven’t yet been introduced to the Broadway star (and New York City dad), today’s the day to do it. Head over to Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Center, where Mitchell will read from Lights on Broadway: A Theatrical Tour from A to Z, a book about backstage for which he penned the foreword. After the reading, Mitchell will and kids from TADA! Youth Theater will treat the audience to a free mini concert.
Here’s a little gift to help you beat the Tuesday blues—and any Scrooge-like impulses. The lovely folks over at Literally Alive have offered our readers a 20% discount on tickets to their family-friendly production of A Christmas Carol. The musical, which promises to be more silly than scary, opens this weekend at the Players Theater on Macdougal Street. To snag your reduced-price tickets, use the code TonyKids when purchasing online or over the phone (call 212-352-3101).
Stay tuned! There are more holiday theater discounts coming your way.
This afternoon, the Radio City Rockettes will hop off stage and onto the streets, where they’ll hide out in a secret spot somewhere around town. (How in the world do you hide all those gams?) Fans are then invited on a scavenger hunt to uncover where the lovely ladies are secluded. Starting at 3:30pm, clues to their whereabouts will be revealed every ten minutes via the Rockettes’ Twitter account. Stay close to your TwitterBerry app as your wander around Gotham with your brood. Prizes—a bundle of tickets, perhaps?—will be awarded to the top three hunters.
If you’ve got a tween girl, unplug the telephone, turn off the Jo Bros album and pop over to the Helen Mills Theatre today, where the Arts Effect NYC is holding a free afternoon of acting and writing workshops tailored to adolescent gals. Kids will learn from local directors, producers and actors, and develop their interests in the arts. A live theatrical performance follows the workshops, along with a “Girl Power”-themed party. Reservations are required. Click here to snag your spot.
We love classic circus spectacles like Barnum & Bailey and Big Apple, but the growing cirque nouveau trend is hard to resist. Much like the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil, Inside Out trades tricked-out elephants and cherry-nosed clowns for eclectic acrobatics and jaw-dropping stunts. Though Swedish troupe Cirkus Cirkor presents a performance that incorporates decidedly adult themes—namely, that the main characters feel trapped by their success—the astounding acts onstage keep little ones mesmerized. Check out our preview and slide show of Inside Out, then snag tickets while you still can: The show only runs through this weekend.
Although you can find discounts to Broadway shows every day, none of the usual deals compare to the bargain that is Kids Night on Broadway. On Tuesday, February 2, Wednesday, February 3 and Sunday, February 7, children ages 6 to 18 can catch a slew of Broadway shows for free—provided you buy an accompanying full-priced adult ticket. Participating productions include tried-and-true family faves (The Lion King, Wicked) tween-pleasers ( Bye Bye Birdie, Billy Elliot the Musical, West Side Story) and even a few choices for mature teens (Oleanna, Next to Normal).
Tickets go on sale on Monday, November 9 at noon, and we’re sure they’re going to sell out fast. Details on how to snag seats for Kids Night on Broadway should be available on the event’s website soon. Last year, a discount code was provided that allowed patrons to purchase tickets by phone, online or at participating theater box offices. Here’s hoping it’s just as easy this year!
